PITTSBURGH (AP) - Thousands of Pittsburgh Steelers fans lined downtown streets Tuesday cheering and twirling Terrible Towels at a parade celebrating the team's victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Sunday's Super Bowl, the sixth for the storied franchise.
Um, WTF? Nowhere in the AP story is this explained. Bad journalism.

It has been tradition for Pittsburgh Steelers fans to twirl yellow towels (about hand towel size) at their games. Watching 70,000 of these things being twirled around at once is pretty wild.
I don't know how or why they named the towel the "Terrible Towel" but it was a promotional item that started in 1975. I suppose it wasn't described in the article because if you do follow football, it's just part of the lexicon now.
